Elephant Man (born, Oneil Bryan) was arrested on charges of sexual assault and rape in Jamaica on Tuesday (January 31) and he was released on $400, 000 bond the following day. Upon his release the popular dancehall artist maintained his innocence, telling Madaroad that the allegations were false. “Elephant would never let down the fans dem like that,” he said.
“See, we out and we just give thanks and praise to the almighty god and we make the fans them know the Energy God nah let you down,” he said once outside of the courthouse, flanked by his mother and older sister. He addressed the rape charge directly, saying that it was falsely reported. “Right now life too precious; we a role model so right now this a no hype ting, mi nuh come out pon no hype ting. This is a lesson fi me.”
A 31-year-old woman filed the report with the Sexual Offenses and Child Abuse Department, claiming that she was assaulted in Elephant Man’s St. Andrews home earlier in the month.
Elephant Man is scheduled to appear in court on May 24, 2012 at the Corporate Area Magistrate's Court for a preliminary hearing. He is being charged with grievous sexual assault and rape, and he will also appear in court for allegedly stealing electricity.
