Meek Mill Ends Up In Handcuffs After Dreams And Nightmares Release

By Maurice Bobb

Art really does imitate life for Meek Mill as he found himself in a nightmarish situation with the law on the very evening of his release party celebrating his debut album, Dreams & Nightmares
. The North Philly-bred MC tweeted a picture of himself last night being detained by authorities in Philadelphia along with the following message to his one million plus followers: "cops cost me a lot of money tonight .....taking pics of me like I'ma fuckin joke....no charges just holding."
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the MMG rookie sensation was detained by Philadelphia Police after he was in a vehicle stopped by officers at 1100 W. Girard Avenue last night around 8 p.m. “He was not arrested,” said Philiadelphia Police spokeswoman Julian Russell. “He was stopped in a vehicle but was not arrested. He was only detained in a substation. In normal cases, we do not give out this kind of information, so I can’t release anything further.”

Authorities are handcuffed on what they can release about the incident, but, according to a tweet he sent out last night, Meek is furious about having to share wrist real estate earmarked for his Rolex with police bracelets. "The crazy part about it is I really had a handcuff and Rolex on my wrist yesterday.... Really #DreamsAndNightmares," he wrote referencing his album artwork.

This week has really been a combination of dreams and nightmares for the 23-year old spitter. On the same day that he dropped his much-anticipated solo project, superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast and stalled album sales. Last night, before an event that should have been a merry time, he was reminded of the nightmares he’s had to endure from the law.

"I ain't get locked up...definitely not in NYC with no gun!" he wrote. "Cops just harassed and violated me last night in Philly just for being famous!"

Meek was just in hot water with Philadelphia officials a few months ago when he was reprimanded for making a reference to the assistant district attorney Noel Ann DeSantis on his track "The Ride." Meek was told to "tread lightly” in court by DeSantis for these lyrics: "The D.A. said she hate me but I don't understand/When I just rocked a show in front of 50,000 fans/I think that bitch racist, she probably in a clan."

Things aren't all bad for Meek, though, his album is currently on pace to move over 200k units for the first week, despite the impact of Sandy. If it weren’t for the continued momentum of Taylor Swift’s high volume selling opus, Red
, which has already sold a whopping 1.208 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, he'd be on pace to grab the #1 spot on Billboard.

Nicki Minaj Is Back On Twitter After Nine Days Off

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Rob Markman
Nicki Minaj deleted her Twitter account last week, taking nine long days away from the social media site, but on Tuesday she finally returned. Her return to Twitter comes just days after she considered retirement from the rap game, and said she was unsure about whether she would continue to tweet.
It was April 15 when Nicki drove her legion of fans crazy by disappearing from the site on which she was among the most popular in the world. "A voice in my head told me to delete my Twitter and that's what I did," Minaj said during an interview in the U.K. "I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me."
At press time, Nicki had 125,000 followers after only a short time back, but it's a safe bet that number will grow exponentially within the coming days. All of Nicki's pervious tweets seem to be intact, minus the few that she sent right before she pulled the plug on her handle. "Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f--king bye," she wrote before vanishing from the social networking site.
Minutes before she stepped away from Twitter, the Young Money star got into a digital dust-up with a fan site that she accused of posting illegal music. Because of the short time that elapsed between the beef and the deletion of her account many assumed that the incident was the deciding factor in Ms. Minaj's choice to leave — not the case, she says.
"Let's set the record straight because a lot of times I don't speak on things, but I don't want people to think that's why I deleted my Twitter," she toldCapital FM in the U.K. "I just needed a moment to myself. Because some page posted things about me — I mean, I've read horrible things about myself. I wouldn't delete my Twitter over that."
Nicki hasn't yet tweeted since rejoining the social network, but we're guessing it won't be long until she greets her Barbz.

Drake has returned back to the road following brief bout of illness. On March 3rd, the rapper/singer tweeted that he had a stomach flu and would not be able to hit a Dallas, TX nightclub date following his Club Paradise show, "Seeing a doctor about this stomach flu...UTA gave me life! Sorry to all my family at Club Zouk that I won't be seeing tonight. Be back soon."
Yesterday, the Drizz was back in usual form, pulling into a Tuscan date per Twitter.
Drake has been keeping busy aside from the Club Paradise tour, which also features Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, on promoting his sophomore Take Care album. He recently wrapped up the video for his next single, "Take Care," with former paramour Rihanna. The director of the video, Yoann Lemoine told MTV News, that the duo," seemed to be super close and that's what I wanted for the video. They fit together pretty well so it was just easy."

Nicki Minaj Talks 'Hottest MCs' After All-Star Game Performance

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
By Rob Markman
Nicki Minaj opened up the 2012 NBA All-Star Game with a performance at Orlando's Amway Center, delivering her hit "Super Bass," clad in a white jumpsuit with her usual colorful wig. After wrapping her performance Nicki headed back to her dressing room but not before chatting with MTV News about her position on the list of MTVs Hottest MCs in the Game VII.
"Hottest MCs #4, let's get it," she boasted with a Queens swagger. "That's big, though. I deserve it. I put in work."
On Thursday night Nicki released her new single "Roman Reloaded" with Lil Wayne, and on the new single from her upcoming sophomore album she made sure to brag and boast. Only Rick Ross, Drake and Kanye West placed higher, giving Minaj the highest Hottest ranking for a female MC in the history of the debate.
Nicki was initially slotted at #5 with Young Money boss Wayne clocking in at #4, but several members of the MTV Hottest Brain Trust felt strongly enough about Nicki's accomplishments mixed with her lyrical impact and ability to more than hold her own when playing with the boys warranted a second look at her ranking. Hottest MCs moderator Sway Calloway called for a vote and in the end, six of the nine experts elected to move Nicki up to the #4 spot, sending Weezy down to #5.

Maino On His Grind Here Goes Some New Work

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

Maino has settled on a release date for his next studio album, The Day After Tomorrow.  It has been set for February 28th.  In the meantime he will drop his mixtape, I Am Who I Am, dropping soon.

Maino & DJ Green Lantern sat down with MTV for their Mixtape Daily segment. Watch as Maino breaks down his new mixtape I Am Who I Am: The Album Before The Album and previews new music from the mixtape, which drops on January 26th.

“With mixtapes, a lot of times, a lot of people do something where they’re rhyming over other people’s beats, they freestyling and stuff like that. I wanted to do something that was a little bit more different and something that I was used to doing. I feel like one of my strong points is making hot records, making songs. So I wanted to do that right before my album was gonna drop.”
