Pharrell Dyes His Hair Green

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Pharrell Williams is going green...well, at least his hair is.
The super-producer rocked a colorful green dye job, as well as black leather shorts, to the Lanvin Ready-To-Wear womenswear show at Paris Fashion Week. Always the fashionista, he was even seen chatting it up with Vogue head honcho Anna Wintour in the front row. Still a little early for St. Patrick's Day, no word on the impetus behind the new 'do.
Pharrell has been diligently working on music. Recently, he joined Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer as the musical consultants for the 84th Academy Awards. In December, Pharrell hinted at a project with Jay-Z. "We're working on something, it's crazy," Skateboard P said to MTV News. The Neptunes frontman contributed "Gotta Have It" to Jay and Kanye's Watch the Throne album and also laid the beat for Papa Carter's ode to his newborn daughter, "Glory."
With so many things still in the works, Pharrell was reluctant at the time to divulge any more details. Instead, he'd rather just let Jay speak on things when he is ready. "Well, you know, he's very discreet about details and stuff," P said. "I'm just a filmmaker, musically. I let everybody else play the roles."
What do you think of Pharrell's new hairdo? Tell us in the comments!

Big K.R.I.T. Releases '4evaNaDay' Mixtape, Announces Tour

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Big K.R.I.T. released his new mixtape, 4evaNaDay, today. The highly-anticipated follow-up to Return of 4Eva, the mixtape contains his newest single "Boobie Miles." The rapper/producer will celebrate the release with a slew of live shows including New York’s Highline Ballroom on Thursday night, March 8th, and dates at next week's South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas, where K.R.I.T. will headline BET’s "Music Matters" show on March 15th and Pandora on March 16th.
Late last year, the Mississippi rapper partnered with fellow down South emcee T.I. for "I'm Flexin.'" K.R.I.T. talked to MTV about the collaboration. "Tip got out and he reached out to my folks to see what we're trying to do, as far as Southern hip-hop is concerned," K.R.I.T. told MTV News on the black carpet for the taping of the "2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards" in Atlanta. "It's just a blessing. He reached out and wanted to work. I sent the record, he liked the record, he jumped on it, and it is what it is. I'm glad it came out in a timely fashion."
K.R.I.T. has been working on his highly-anticipated major label debut for some time. He told MTV in December about the delay. "I'm gonna do my best, of course, everybody wants to sell, but for the most part I just feel like it's more important that people hear the music," he explained on why he needs to take his time with his debut LP. "I think that's what we've gotten across and people understand that I don't really mind dropping a free project — I have and I will. It's just about putting the music out there; I finally have a platform, which means that people can hear it now, and I feel blessed because of that."

Diddy And Shyne Together In Paris

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

Diddy and his former protégé Jamal “Shyne” Barrow have reunited, in the name of Paris fashion. Diddy tweeted “Me and Shyne Po front row at Kenzo #ParisIsBurning RT to da world!!!!” several times today, sharing a photo of the pair at Kenzo’s Paris Fashion Week presentation. The cozy pic shows Diddy, dapper in a suit and sunglasses, while Shyne rocks a top hat and beard.
The two notoriously had a falling out after Shyne did an almost nine-year prison bid after being convicted of assault and gun possession in the Club New York shooting in 1999 while Diddy was acquitted of all charges.
Just last month, Shyne told MTV exclusively that he and his former Bad Boy mentor had buried the hatchet. Shyne said that he and Diddy recently talked over the phone and planned to meet in the coming weeks. "As far as Puff is concerned, that's been a long time coming," Shyne said. "He had reached out to me twice while I was in the pen, but I just wasn't ready for it." Shyne continued of Diddy, "I felt how I felt, I said what I said. In retrospect, when you looked at the way he handled it, he held it down, he wore it. He ain't had nothing to say; always had good things to say. It was always, 'Yo, whatever Shyne need, we got him.' " At the time, Shyne wouldn't elaborate on the details of his and Combs' conversation, but he did walk away from the call in a more positive place. "For me, the conversation was a confirmation of what I felt. Son kept it super tall, and that's what it's about. When a man says, 'Listen, as a man, I make mistakes and I own that.' What could you do?"
Could a musical reconciliation be far off?

Drake has returned back to the road following brief bout of illness. On March 3rd, the rapper/singer tweeted that he had a stomach flu and would not be able to hit a Dallas, TX nightclub date following his Club Paradise show, "Seeing a doctor about this stomach flu...UTA gave me life! Sorry to all my family at Club Zouk that I won't be seeing tonight. Be back soon."
Yesterday, the Drizz was back in usual form, pulling into a Tuscan date per Twitter.
Drake has been keeping busy aside from the Club Paradise tour, which also features Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky, on promoting his sophomore Take Care album. He recently wrapped up the video for his next single, "Take Care," with former paramour Rihanna. The director of the video, Yoann Lemoine told MTV News, that the duo," seemed to be super close and that's what I wanted for the video. They fit together pretty well so it was just easy."
The Toronto superstar was recently dubbed the #2 Hottest MC in the Game from MTV. He bested fellow YMCMB members Lil' Wayne and Nicki Minaj but came runner-up to Rick Ross.

Trae The Truth Is The King Of Streets On New Mixtape

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Rob Markman
Music is therapy. After Trae Tha Truth's friend Money Clip D was fatally shot last Thanksgiving, the Houston MC went through a range of emotions. At first Trae shut down, but after grieving, the street king headed back into the studio to record his last mixtape King of the Streets: Freestyles, which he released in January.
"What makes this mixtape special to me is my brother Clip was murdered Thanksgiving night. I kinda went back in that shell, I got back in that zone where it was, 'Eff the world.' I didn't wanna be bothered, I didn't wanna look at nobody. It was straight mobbin'," Trae told Mixtape Daily while in Orlando, Florida, for NBA All-Star Weekend. "I had to vent; my form of venting is through my music. I kinda just started to think about how I know he'd want me to keep it pushing, we grinded so hard to get to where we are now. I jumped in that zone, got in there a couple of days and me and Don Cannon, we made it happen."
King of the Streets: Freestyles comes less than a year after Trae's Street King album and further cements the ABN general's place in rap's underground. As a member of the legendary Screwed Up Click, Trae built his career crafting unforgettable freestyles over other artists' beats, and he's keeping up the tradition. Over Rick Ross' "Stay Schemin'," Trae raps of heavy artillery and his own paranoia in the face of haters, but he switches his grim outlook to boast of his diamonds and women on "You Don't Know Nothin."
Most rappers would get lost rhyming over tracks like Tyga's "Rack City" or Meek Mill's "Ima Boss," but not Trae. With one of the most unique voices in rap, Trae stands out on any beat he gets on. With "Shot Caller," Trae makes the Harry Fraud-produced French Montana hit his own and closes things out properly on "R.I.P. Clip."
Trae pours his heart out over Drake's "Look What You've Done" and eulogizes his fallen friend. "Tears falling slow, I don't know where to go, I need to see a reverend/ They say the real gotta leave, but still I gotta know do Gs go to heaven?/ I'm here sittin' feelin' hurt like abandoned children 'cause I'm all alone/ My brother left Thanksgiving night, walked out the crib, but never made it home."
Death is never easy, but over the course of 20-tracks Trae tha Truth proves that music can provide some form of therapy.

DJ Whoo Kid And Paris Give Chavis Chandler Some Game

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
Chavis Chandler is a name that hip-hop fans may want to get familiar with. As a member of Danny Brown’s Bruiser Brigade, the young Detroit MC is ready to put on for his city and during Wednesday’s “RapFix Live” he got some key encouragement from DJ Whoo Kid and G-Unit’s latest signee Paris during the show’s “Get in the Game” segment.
First Chandler played his “OFTLOA (Only For the Love of Art)” video from his Breath of Fresh Air II mixtape and then he Skype’d into the show to chop it up with host Sway and the G-Unit representatives.
“You’re in tune with that fan base and the beat is hot and the video is very creative,” Whoo Kid said of “OFTLOA.”
The world renowned DJ is familiar with Chavis’ homey Danny Brown, thanks to the songs that he has recorded with G-Unit’s Tony Yayo, so it’s easy for Whoo Kid t catch on to the Bruiser Brigade vibe. “I see the connection with him brings out your creativeness,” he told Chavis of his relationship with Danny Brown.
Paris, who is a newcomer herself, humbly told Chavis that he wasn’t too far behind where she is now. “You’re almost there I can see your hungry already, you’re almost there,” she said.
Does Chavis Chandler have what it takes to get in the game? Tell us in the comments!

Young Buck Escapes Drive-By Shooting Unscathed

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Rob Markman

Young Buck should consider himself lucky after he survived an 11-shot drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in his native Nashville, Tennessee. Rihanna Addresses Relationship Status In New Interview

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Rihanna dishes on dating and how being single really, well, sucks. In an interview with Brit radio personality Jonathan Ross, the fiercely independent singer revealed that being a single girl has it's down sides.
"I'm not looking, [but] I would not tell you that [being single] is something to enjoy. Single life is just so overrated. It sucks. You always want to be single when you're in a relationship, but it's no bueno," she tells Ross. "I think that I have such incredible experiences that, you don't want to live your life and meet someone; you want to share your life with someone. That's what I'm missing right now," the "Talk That Talk" singer laments. For the rude boys out there, Rih Rih's list of things that she's looking for in a man? "I'd love to date someone cool, fun ... funny."
Rihanna has been keeping busy, musically, at least; with two of her exes. She recently shot the video for "Take Care," her sexy collaboration with Drake. Video director Yoann Lemoine noted how cozy the duo looked on set, "They seemed to be super close and that's what I wanted for the video...They fit together pretty well so it was just easy." Rihanna also hooked up with her famous former boyfriend Chris Brown last month, for two separate remixes, "Birthday Cake" and "Turn Up The Music."
"Rihanna's 'Birthday Cake' was a standout track from Talk That Talk, even in its original form (as an interlude) — and more importantly, without Chris Brown. On the remix, all Brown's aggressive, salacious verses do ... is add fuel to rumors circling of their reunion behind closed doors. [And] Rihanna comes back on the song, calling checkmate on Breezy with her suggestive lyrics — "Remember how you did it?/ Remember how you fit it?/ If you still want to kiss it, come, come and get it" — making it hard to not be teased into again reading between the lines. 'Turn Up the Music' feels like a collaboration that would have fit both artists' discography during their days coupled up. Although RiRi's airy vocals blend well with the Underdogs' dance soundscapes, adding Rihanna to the track doesn't leave a lasting impression nor elevate the song to higher grounds. Ultimately, it's not the content of the songs that matter; it's the statement both singers are trying to make by simply releasing them. The collaborations appear to be a step toward reconciliation between both — seeing the tracks climb the chart is a bonus. Rihanna wants us to know that she no longer wears the shoes of the victim and Breezy wants to prove that he's become a better man. This isn't a personal or professional move; it's both. Both singers have woven their personal life, a haunting moment in their lives, into a professional move. Though it's stirred much controversy, I believe it was bound to happen." — Erika Ramirez, Billboard.com's "The Juice"

Basketball Wives' Tami Roman On Newcomers Kenya, Kesha

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Basketball Wives' Tami Roman is not mincing words when it comes to newcomer cast mates Kesha Nichols and Kenya Bell. In a special sit-down with MTV's RapFix, the very opinionated Tami was asked about her thoughts on the new girls. After ignoring the topic of Kesha altogether--Tami had nothing nice to say so she won't say anything at all (Ouch!)--Tami shares that she can somewhat tolerate Kenya over Kesha. It's a lukewarm reception nonetheless. "She's taking some getting used to," the reality star tells MTV News in a new interview.
Basketball Wives’ Tami Roman Dishes On Evelyn Lozada & Chad Ochocinco
This comes on the heels of last week's episode in which Kenya raised more than a few eyebrows when PG-13 YouTube videos of her were discovered by the girls. “Someone needs to tell her it’s not cute!” cast mate Suzie Ketcham laughed upon seeing Kenya’s "side project." It seems that Kenya's been practicing for a professional music career and upcoming music video shoot, so expect plenty more shots to be fired.
Tami has been very vocal when it comes to her cast mates this season. Last week, she dished to MTV about her trepidation over Evelyn Lozada and Chad Ochocinco's relationship and pretty much marked it as a short-term affair. "You can’t tell a person who to fall in love with. I guess she’s just gonna take her chances and hope that this one will stand the test of time,” Roman said about the engaged duo. Tami implies that infidelities are going to be a major issue because of money and fame, something Tami herself faced when she was married to basketball player Kenny Anderson. For the women snagging a baller, Tami warns that you need “a strong mind and a thick skin.”

Although T.I. is still prepping his upcoming album Trouble Man, he's also hard at work building up his Grand Hustle Records empire. During an episode of "RapFix Live" on Wednesday, Tip announced that Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth has been added to the label along with Iggy Azalea, but he also noted the addition of British rapper Chip.
"I'm 21 now," Chip said, sitting next to T.I. and Azalea. "I'm pretty much, I wouldn't say as big as I can be in the UK, but we kind of hit a glass ceiling. I got signed when I was 17. I had a platinum album, previous number one singles, Top 10 hits, countless top 10 features. The biggest hit I had in the UK was a song called "Champion" featuring Chris Brown. It's actually the theme song on Madden 12."
"It got to a point where people in the UK felt like if there was someone over there that could help bridge the gap between the cultures in the Urban music over here and in the UK, it's me," he continued. "Tip was rockin' with what I was doing and we just linked up."
With a flurry of signings and albums due out from Iggy and B.o.B. this year, Grand Hustle Records is establishing themselves as a force in 2012.

Lil Wayne, Cee Lo, Diddy & More Rock Total Rewards Concerts [Photos]

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
» by Latifah Muhammad March 2, 2012, 17:50pm

Last night, Weezy, Diddy, Cee Lo, and more performed at Caesars Entertainment's Escape to Total Rewards concert on stages in Los Angeles, New York, New Orleans and Chicago.
Each of the four simultaneous shows were simulcast via a live stream, and while Wayne gave the censors a run for their money (because he doesn't "know the lyrics to the radio versions" of his own music) he managed to give the West Coast a solid 20-minute set. Also in the City of Angels performing was Cee Lo and a bevy of showgirls. Meanwhile, Diddy hyped the crowd for Mariah Carey, who performed at New York City's Gotham Hall.
With all the star power hitting up each of the four cross-country locations, we gotta ask: What in the hell did Tyson Chandler have on?

13 Shot Outside Of Nipsey Hussle Show In Arizona

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
» by Alvin aqua Blanco March 3, 2012, 15:23pm

Thirteen people were shot outside of a Nipsey Hussle show last night. Thirteen.
U.S. News reports that 13 people were shot and wounded—two victims are in critical condition—in Tempe, Arizona in the parking lot of the  The Clubhouse Music Venue. The shooting occurred around 11:30pm local time.  The suspects are two Black men who were wearing dark colored clothing.
Yeah, that'll make them easy to track down.
Although the U.S. News story doesn't mention who the artist performing at the venue was, it was Nipsey Hussle. Earlier in the night Nipsey  tweeted that he was set to perform at The Clubhouse. After the incident, he tweeted, "Az....y'all gotta be cool man. This Shyte ain't rite."
The LA rapper recently signed with DJ Skee's Skee Music label and is affiliated with the Rollin 60s Crips. According to police the shooting may have been the result of an altercation inside the club, but details right now are sketchy at best.

J. Cole returned home to Fayetteville, North Carolina on Thursday (March 1) to kick off a three-day celebration titled “Dreamville Weekend,” in his honor. Cole paid a special visit to his old high school, Terry Standford High, where he grew up playing basketball. He will also be hosting a dinner alongside the mayor and a few celebrity friends for the announcing of an official “J. Cole Day.” On Thursday, Cole tweeted about the festivities, writing “’J. Cole Day’ in Fayetteville today. Dawg, I can't even sleep it's too real. Dreamville Weekend.”
"Dreamville Weekend" will consist of a series of events meant to inspire young people and treat the residents of Fayetteville to an enjoyable time. Cole is not only looking to inspire but to give back to his own community. “I feel like it’s important to show them that there’s a bigger world out there,” the 27 year-old rapper said. A scheduled performance by Cole is set at the Filmore Charlotte for Saturday, March 3.
Next month, there's a new tour in the forecast for Cole. The Roc Nation rapper recently announced “The Campus Consciousness Tour” beginning on April 11, at the University of Rhode Island. Rihanna Sports New Tattoos In 'Battleship' Poster

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Jocelyn Vena
Rihanna threw us for a loop last month with her new "Thug Life" tattoo, but judging by the poster for the upcoming movie "Battleship," there'll be plenty more ink to see. In the new poster Rihanna sports some new, and even more intense, tattoos on her arm. (See full poster after the jump)
Posted on Acehoswbiz.com, the poster features a tatted-up Rihanna holding a machine gun, her cropped black hair under a hat. The poster is for the film's international release and the taglines are all written in Italian, translating to roughly, "The Battle for Earth Will Happen on the Sea." Fans of the pop star are certainly used to seeing her sport guns. She played a sexy military leader in her "Hard" video, where she pranced around in military couture (most of which lacked pants), danced on military vehicles, wore a helmet that included Mickey Mouse ears and used sexy glances to command her militia.

"I was surprised no one had ever thought to hire Rihanna," director Peter Berg told MTV News recently about the singer's casting in the film based on the board game. "I was a huge fan of her videos. Obviously she's sexy, but she had this real intensity. I'm like, 'Someone's going to get her.' "When I met with her, she came in a T-shirt and jeans, no makeup, very natural," he added. "She was like, 'Look, I want to be an actress. Don't kiss my ass. Don't lie to me. Push me. Treat me as you would any other actor. Help make me good.' She is really, really good in 'Battleship.' "
In addition to Rihanna, Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and the film's bad guy, a robot alien, also got the poster treatment. Brooklyn Decker and Hamish Linklater also star in the May 18 release.

Waka Flocka, Drake Big Tippin' In 'Round of Applause' Video

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?
By Rebecca Thomas
Clap for this: Waka Flocka Flame's Flame's "Round of Applause" video finally dropped this week, hitting the indispensable MTV Jams after weeks of snaps from the set and behind-the-scenes looks. Though the Drake-assisted, Lex Luger-produced single is Club Motivation for pro dancers, the Bricksquad MC promised more than just your standard strip clip. You decide if he delivered.
The Mr. Boomtown-directed "Applause" opens with a flashback of a young Juaquin Malphurs yoking his girl "Eva" with a necklace, "just two kids in love"; she's in an Obey snapback, while a pre-fame "Waka" sports chin-grazing locks.
But that was back when things were still simple -- everybody knows young love doesn't last. So a grown-up Eva (played by "Basketball Wives L.A." vixen Draya Michele) gets caught up in the life, and Flocka's forced to watch it all go down at Diamonds gentleman's club in the A. Draya mostly struts across the Atlanta spot carrying an ominous-looking handbag, when she's not steering her way through a high-speed car chase. Apparently, the dancers at this particular club are well-compensated, because the stacks are flying and the (paper) racks are spread out on a table.
MTV News' #2 Hottest MC in the Game steps in to spit (ahem, yes, spit) that verse: "Bus it like you can't afford a car, you a star/ You look in the mirror, you know who you are." As for the décor, they go hard in the (body) paint, spraying a handful of girls with the song's title and letting it bleed onto the walls.
Before the proceedings draw to a close, Waka, clad in his signature Varsity jacket, descends a staircase ... and soon he's running after Eva. The alternately upbeat and dramatic clip ends with a familiar small-screen plot device: To be continued.
So did you clap for it? Sound off on the "Round of Applause" video in the comments or tweet us @MTVRapFix!

Nick Cannon Suffering From 'Lupus-Like' Disease

(Nick Cannon on his new diet in mid-January)
By Nadeska Alexis
In mid-February Nick Cannon announced that he was giving up his gig as morning show host on 92.3 due to ongoing health issues. Cannon’s health troubles first began over the winter holidays, when he was hospitalized for mild kidney failure, but he eventually returned to the office on a strict diet. Now, Cannon tells People magazine that he’s suffering from an autoimmune disease bearing similarities to Lupus.
Cannon told People that his kidney issues and subsequent blood clots stemmed from an “autoimmune disease that [doctors] found in my system,” although he didn’t specify what the disease was. "It's a lot of stuff," he added. "But it's all in order now. They kind of say [my] autoimmune [disease] is ... like a Lupus type of thing, but no one else in my family has it."
"The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because ... I've known people who have passed away from that," he says. "I'm just trying to make sure I put my health first."
"I always considered myself as someone who was in great shape, but I was doing too much [to my body] so my immune system got confused and just started attacking my kidneys," Cannon told MTV News in mid-January, pledging to focus on a healthier lifestyle. "You look at my Twitter picture and I look like I'm in shape, but I was putting the wrong stuff into my body, speeding all the time, not sleeping and eating properly. It's all about taking time and really caring about yourself and how you fuel yourself."

New Limp Bizkit, Lil Wayne Single Due Next Week

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Gil Kaufman
Both fans of Limp Bizkit and Lil Wayne were surprised last week when it was announced that Fred Durst and crew had inked an official deal with Cash Money Records, and now a collaboration will come sooner than expected. A spokesperson for Cash Money confirmed to MTV News that next week the label will release a new single next from Limp Bizkit, featuring Lil Wayne, titled "Ready to Go."
Not much is known about the first new music from the "Nookie" act since their surprise signing to the label, but in a statement announcing the roster move, co-founder Bryan "Birdman" Williams said, "We have always admired how they have been able to blend rock and hip-hop and will bring a unique sound to the label." His partner, Ronald "Slim" Williams, added, "We are excited to see the work and collaborations that come from the entire Cash Money family with the addition of Limp Bizkit."
"As both an artist and someone who has signed artists, I can say without a doubt that Cash Money is at the top of their game," Durst said. "What attracted me to the label is not only their great taste and hustle, but their belief in their artists and the family atmosphere. Slim and Birdman allow their artists to be themselves and encourage creative output and continued development. I look forward to bringing my vision as a director as well as my voice to the label and to Limp Bizkit putting out some of our best music to date."
On Thursday, Birdman told Billboard that the song will be "a great way to let the world know that [Bizkit] is part of us," revealing that the band's frontman, Fred Durst, hit the studio in Miami the week after the Grammy awards to bang out the single. "It's rock, but it's hip-hop rock," Birdman added. "I think we got that hip-hop-rock swagger."
He said that after Bizkit finish their tour of Australia, they will shoot a video with Wayne for the song and then continue work on the album, which they've already started tracking while on tour. "They're just gonna go in and get it done," he said. "We're looking to put an album out this year, but right now we're dropping the single with him and Wayne, and we're gonna vibe from there. Fred's all the way in — he understands what we're about, hard work and dedication. To me, they're one of the hardest workers."

Kanye West Teams Up With Giuseppe Zanotti For $5800 Shoes

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Rob Markman
Kanye West's love for fashion is no secret. As you read this, Mr. West is likely holed up in a European studio prepping his second fashion line, which will debut this month at Paris Fashion Week. In the mean time Ye has kept busy with some side projects, including a new collaboration with Italian designer Giuseppe Zanotti on an insanely expensive pair of women's heels, priced at 4,420 euros, or about $5,800.
Folks first caught a glimpse of the bone-color, pearl-embroidered heels during Paris Fashion Week last October. The buzz around Yeezy's women's line was heavy and the reviews were mixed, though the Giuseppe heels seemed to be an overwhelming favorite. For now, Kanye and Giuseppe's hot-stepper is only available through the trendy French retailer Colette.

For ballettes on a budget, there is a second, all-black strappy design made of velvet leather that goes for $930.

Kanye recounted his days of learning shoe design from the Italian fashion icon back in January during his unforgettable Twitter spree. "I snuck to Giuseppe Zanotti Factory still under contract and learned to design women's shoes for 2 years before my first show in Paris," he wrote.
In August of last year, Zanotti praised Kanye's dedication to fashion. "[Kanye] loves learning about shoes [...] both the design and construction, and we've tried to design something together," he told Womens Wear Daily. He added, "In a couple of months, he could have his own special collection out."

Lil Wayne Cancels On Jimmy Kimmel, Host Enlists Impersonator

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel was stood up by Lil Wayne last night. The rapper was slated to be a guest on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" last night but he was a last minute no-show. Ever the improvisor, the confused Jimmy called on a random audience member named Carl to don a Wayne-esque ensemble (translation: a wig of fake dreadlocks and baseball cap) and take his place during the interview. The faux Weezy lightheartedly tried to play along.

He claimed he was late because he was too busy "listening to the radio" and thought he was incarcerated for eight months due to "speeding." Fake Wayne read "To Kill A Mockingbird" during his jail stint and forgot his own hometown of New Orleans. Bone up on Wikipedia, Carl!
For those wondering about the whereabouts of Tunechi, he was busy performing during Caesars' Entertainment "Escape To Total Rewards" yesterday in Los Angeles. The mega-concert series included simultaneous shows in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans featuring acts like Mariah Carey and Diddy.
In other Wayne news, the YMCMB head honcho and just-signed act Limp Bizkit will release a joint single "Ready to Go" next week.

Swizz Beatz Is Bringing Korean Pop To The States

WE ARE HIP HOP! ARE YOU?

By Nadeska Alexis
Swizz Beatz wears many hats--producer, designer, sometimes-rapper--but his latest venture is focused on bridging the gap between Korean pop artists and stars in the U.S. The super producer has teamed up with Korean entertainment group O&Media for a new venture that he hopes will make K-Pop a phenomenon stateside. "My goal is to migrate the cultures," Swizz told MTV News.
"It's not about me being a feature or just producing K-Pop music; it's about migrating musical cultures around the world. And I just felt like starting with K-Pop, starting in Asia and opening up different outlets to something cool and new."
Swizz Beatz Says A New Mixtape Is On The Way
To spearhead this project, Swizz teamed up with popular Korean entertainment group O&Media. "That partnership has been coming about for a couple of months now," he said, detailing the progress they've made together so far. "We have a TV show component, a tour company component, a production company and a label. We're just active as the tunnel for artists that want to do things in the West, or artists in the West that want to do things in Asia. This is about a whole migration of cultures coming together under our umbrella to have an outlet to express themselves."
Part of Swizz's goal is to use elements from each music culture to help grow the other. "They still do artist development [in Asia], where back here in the States, the labels and our culture lacks artist development," he said. "Nowadays, an artist can go into the booth, put out a song the next day, and that person thinks that they're a superstar. But within the K-Pop movement, artists actually go through artist development. They take music classes that allow them to be ready for when they do become that big star.
"I think that introducing different cultures of music can help everybody out, and that doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing hip-hop or R&B music," he added. "I have love for all genres of music, because it's all art, and I just want to take the boundaries and lines of segregation and make them invisible."
In the simplest terms, the super-producer wants the love to be spread evenly across the musical world. "When we go to these different countries — Korea, Japan, China — as artists from the United States, we get treated like kings," he said. "We get treated like real stars. And I feel that when they come over to the States, as successful as they are, they should get treated the same."
